10 Things to Expect from Your Pest Exterminators

It is important to ensure direct communication between client and provider. This includes aligning expectations. After all, misplaced expectations and unmet expectations are what cause disappointment. It is beneficial for each company to set expectations and meet them.

Here is a list we came up with of 10 things to expect from your pest exterminators. We hope you’ll find it useful in determining whether to use our services or stay with your current provider. Ultimately, as long as your pest control needs are met, that is what we care about.

A caring attitude. Pests are stressful. Part of the job is hearing concern in someone’s voice and being able to calmly explain your methods and results. Answer questions and concerns with thoughtfulness and compassion for each person we serve.

It is easy to get into the hum-drum attitude of routine and mundane, but we strive to keep our caring attitude, which is why it made our list of 10 things to expect from your pest exterminators.

A willingness to serve. Pest control exterminators are public servants. They put themselves in harm’s way for every customer. Not all pests are dangerous, but some carry illness and disease causing bacteria. Pest control chemicals can be harmful to the applicator’s health when in direct contact with them for a long time. We understand this and want to protect our clients by treating a property safely and effectively.

A true customer service heart goes a long way, which is why it made our list of 10 things to expect from your pest exterminators.

A complete inspection. This involves full attention-to-detail regarding the pest problem that was called in, but also keeping our eye out for other activity and notifying the homeowner or property manager. So often a pest expert will have a get-in-get-out attitude. But a complete inspection is vital to the property as a whole and it can help solve pest issues before they start. Preventative pest control is the most effective form of pest control.

A thorough treatment. It is not good to over treat. Likewise, it is not good to under treat. Some companies may skimp on product during dilution or not place as much equipment as necessary to increase their profit margins. This is a gross disservice to the client. Homeowners and property managers who haven’t been trained in pest control deserve your best service.

This item on our list of 10 things to expect from your pest exterminators shouldn’t have to be here. But you’d be surprised what you have to clarify. At Done Right Pest Solutions we strive to treat just the right amount, and this may change from case to case. This is why we don’t believe in the “one-size-fits-all” mentality.

Follow-up. Some services require a follow-up treatment, and others don’t. Still, it’s nice customer service for the client to receive some sort of “how’s everything going?” a couple of weeks later.

Transparency. Sometimes pest control technicians don’t solve a problem on the first visit. Sometimes not on the second visit either. It is vital to the success of the treatment and the company-client relationship for the technician to calmly explain the different processes he or she is taking in their pest control matter.

It is also important for the technician to be in communication with other technicians or supervisors regarding difficult-to-solve pest issues. You’ve heard the saying, “two heads are better than one.” Well, it’s true for pest control experts too, and that’s why it made our list of 10 things to expect from your pest exterminators.

Honesty. A lot of companies will say nearly anything to get a sale. We’re not like that. We’re not going to try to sell you a service you don’t need. (Some companies try to sell preventative bed bug control to people who haven’t had bed bugs. Ridiculous!)

A lot of companies will perform termite prevention services in Minnesota where termites are pretty rare. It is important to realize that there are many possible cases where termites can exist, (like new construction, transportation of wood products from an area that has termites, etc.) but the fact of the matter is that 99% of termite jobs in Minnesota aren’t needed, yet they are so costly.

While we do believe preventative carpenter ant control is very beneficial, we’re not going to we’re not going to try to sell you on a service that you don’t think you need. That’s why it made our list of 10 things to expect from your pest exterminators.

Handyman Skills. Not every pest control company has licensed contractors on staff who can fix a foundation, repair a soffit, or install a one-way attic vent. That’s OK, and it’s best to be up front about that, but it is important for the pest control technician to provide all the skills he or she can at every job. (I understand this varies based on type of company, type of insurance coverage, etc.) but if our technicians’ can save you money in the long haul, we’re going to do it.

Guarantee. We call it warranty, but it’s basically a guarantee. You’ve heard the phrase, “The only things guaranteed in life are death and taxes.” Well how about the only thing guaranteed at Done Right Pest Solutions is death of your pest problems and we won’t tax (cost) you too much? That’s our goal anyways.

Each company should offer a period of time after a service where the homeowner or property manager can expect to see none of those pests. The homeowner or property manager should also be able to expect no additional fees during the warranty period. We do, and we consider it an important part of our service, a proof, if you will. And that’s why it made our list of 10 things to expect from your pest exterminators.

Minimal prep work. This subject matter is different based on the company you choose to hire. Some pest control companies expect very extensive prep work for their bed bug or cockroach services. I’ve read lists a page in length or detailed prep work tenants or homeowners have to complete prior to a service.

At Done Right Pest Solutions, you won’t see a prep work list. In fact, we typically prefer you don’t do anything prior to our service. If there is anything at all our techs would like you to do, they can let you know for the follow-up visit.

Prep work disrupts the pests’ routines and spooks them into hiding. How can a complete inspection be done if pests disappear into hiding? We say you go about your normal routine and the pests will go about theirs. When we come in we can get a look at the full-level of activity each property is seeing.

Stinging Insects

For any nest, it is simply treated and removed, a process that doesn’t often take much time. A 2 month warranty is provided.

For any potentially larger issues, like nests in the ground, wall void, or soffit/fascia area, a liquid spray is applied to the area, the nest remains unmoved, but should be inactive. And a 2 month warranty is provided.

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants build with wood from our houses, garages, sheds, decks, porches, patios, pools, or other structures. Our company employs a very effective liquid product that draws any carpenter ants in the area to it, it attaches itself to their legs, and can take out several colonies at once. For our carpenter ant service we treat the foundation of a structure and give a 2 month warranty.

Moles

Our expert technicians use a carbon dioxide machine to treat the mole runs. This ensures that the moles die humanely, quickly, and efficiently, while also protecting your children and pets from not being able to dig up a poison or bait.

This one-time service comes with a 1 month warranty, or a seasonal service, depending on your need (whether you live by woods or river or not).

Mosquitoes and Ticks

Each mosquito and tick treatment is performed with efficiency and ease on our customer. An inspection of the yard is completed first, in which the technician can identify any potential breeding and harborage areas that may need more thorough of a treatment.

A liquid application is applied, it dries within the house, and then it is EPA and FDA approved child- and pet-friendly once dry. A one-time service comes with a 1 month warranty, and a seasonal service comes with a seasonal warranty, with at least 5 monthly treatments.

Check out our Mosquito & Tick Plan flyer for more information.

Peak Seasons Plan

Our annual residential plan is the most cost effective option we offer and we recommend it to anyone who struggles with more than 1 pest issue per year. It comes with a spring power spray, summer foundational treatment, and fall power spray. Any interior treatment is recommended at least in the spring and the fall. All callbacks are NO charge and a 12 month warranty is provided.
